World Mountain Trail Running Championships

Italian Marco Di Gasperi dominated the men's World Mountain Trail Running Championships held on a tough lap course in Ovrannaz, taking in 330m ascent and descent each circuit. He lead Italy to team gold ahead of the African nation Eritrea. Scotland's Jo Symonds had a dramatic finish to the race, just missing a medal by 0.2 seconds in 4th and England's Adam Grice 8 seconds behind in 5th.

Anna Pichrtova from the Czech Republic, added to her collection of World Trophy medals, winning gold for the first time from Austrian Andrea Mayr and American Laura Haefeli. The States won team gold from the Czech Republic and Italy in 3rd. Vic Wilkinson (England) was the best of the British in 15th, just ahead of team mates Sarah Tunstall 17th and Katie Ingram 18th. The English girls just missed out on team bronze in 4th.

African nations dominated the Junior Men's race, with Uganda's Geoffrey Kusuro winning gold, from Eritrean team mates Moussie Semere 2nd and Ouqbit Tseggay in 3rd. England's Simon Barnby was best Brit in 26th. Eritrea dominated the team results winning gold from Turkey and Italy.

Aussie Laura Tomsett won the Junior Women's gold medal from Hulya Bastry of Turkey and fellow Aussie Veronica Wallington in the bronze medal position. Scotland's Mhairi Inglis was 6th and Anna Anderson 7th. Australia won team gold, ahead of USA in silver and Turkey in bronze. England missed out on the medals again in 4th.
