Fresh from Notting Hill Carnival, the awesome Batala Liverpool samba drumming band brought crowds of spectators to Keswick Market Square on Sunday, for the Lakeland Trails Festival of running and walking. Performing live throughout the day, the thumping sound of the drums heralding the start of each event, proved a huge crowd pleaser, with over 6000 people attending throughout the day.

Two of the greats of mountain running, Robert Krupicka and Anna Pichrtova, imposed themselves on the Valmalenco-Valposchiavo event of 2009, an event which was conditioned by very capricious weather and which took place over a foreshortened course of approximately 20km.
